Here is an incredible beauty just acquired and the first time offered. I think it is one of the most beautiful pieces of Maltese Bobbin Lace I have ever owned and now I am offering it to someone who will also admire and keep it safe.

If you look close you will see very fine detail of the wheat ears and Maltese Cross. Looking at the flounce I envision it broken into three sections. The upper portion or border along the neckline, the center section and the lower border of Maltese crosses along the scalloped edge. The center portion gives the feeling of being circular in motion with "wheels" of the dainty size wheat ears. Larger ones scroll along the top of these "circles". Three-pointed leaves form a row along the bottom edge of the circles.

The length along the neckline is 27" long. The width of the lace to the edge of the scallop is 7-1/2" wide. The little I have read on Maltese bobbin lace the width of this collar is possibly not made in one piece but joined together.  In studying the flounce I think it has been joined just below the larger three leaves and above the Maltese Cross. Possibly again joined above the center section next to the border at the neckline.

The condition is very good. I found a few dots of oxidation from storage. I did not find any evidence of damage. A wonderful opportunity to own a fine Maltese Bobbin lace Bertha collar.
