An original wooden framed embroidery sampler from the vintage years of the 1920's or 1930's. A winter scene of snow laden trees and homes amid falling snow. All embroidery is done in a black or white floss on a background fabric of felted wool in a gray tone.
French knots form the falling snow flakes, and as one looks close, the flakes give a 3-D affect to the sampler. An indication from the marking line under the embroidery, it appears the pattern for the sampler may have been hand drawn. It is framed in a narrow black frame with a wide mat border.
Size, including frame is 12-3/4" x 16-3/4". Size of the embroidery, itself, is 6-3/4" x 9".
Condition: Overall darkening of the border mat from years of storage. No major staining or anything objectional. Embroidery is nice.
