Wow! Is this a fabulous silk kimono style Oriental opera coat. It dates from the vintage years of the 1920's or possibly a tad earlier. The thickly padded embroidery stitches, made of cream silk thread, provide a stunning display of roses against the cream silk fabric. A one on one color that just spells CLASSY.

The gorgeous roses meander down the coat front, on either side of the opening.  Trails of smaller roses cascade down each of the sleeves, both front and back.  The back of the coat ~ well, it is just as delightful, with a bevy of roses, large and small, meandering to near the hem.    The neckline of the coat is further accented with a dainty embroidered half flowers, zig zag twisted thread and french knots.  This same motif is repeated at the edge of the cuff, down the front opening and around the hem line.

To close the front opening, there are five sets of loop fabric frogs fastening with incised brass shank buttons.  For an intriguing look, the side seams are split 16" to the hem line.  Again, the same motif is embroidered around the opening of the split, as at the edge of the hem.  The coat is fully lined in cream silk.  Here is one of those quality garments that has a " never go out of style look".  As beautifully worn today, as it was then.

Size:  There are no tags so here are the measurements:  Length from neckline to hem is 48-1/4" long.  Shoulder to shoulder is 15" across.  40" around the bust.  18" sleeve length.   Guessing about a size 10.

Condition:  It has been worn some but well taken care of..  Plus it has been stored for many, many years.  So you will find some imperfections.  Most noteably, a tiny hole in the silk at the back of the neckline.  About  1/8" x 1/4".  I also noticed, in places, the stitches which hold the zig zag thread have become detached.  Not a lot, but here and there but mainly along the hem.  It could be easily restored by a stitch or two.  Just a little patience.  Also a few tiny oxidation marks.  Mainly a dot here or there. Nothing serious.
