A lovely pre Civil War hand embroidery whitework on fine muslin pelerine capelet collar.  Dating 1840's - 1850's era.  The border of pelerine is covered in a gorgeous embroidery of flora and leaves with finely detailed needlework.  The floral border is also accented with a scallop edge along all sides of the triangle shaped garment.  

The pelerine measures  45" long from side to side at the top edge.  Each of the short triangle sides measure 24-1/2" long.  A the center back the pelerine is 20" wide from the top edge to the point of the triangle.

Condition:  As with many of these lovely old pieces there are some flaws.  However, except for a number of tiny holes and one long ago small darn area, there is no major damage.  A couple of slight oxidation marks also.

A beautiful authentic piece for costuming or study.
