A navy blue lady's Edwardian - 1915 petticoat in unworn condition. It would have been a purchased petticoat, either through a store, or mail order catalog. Made of cotton muslin, the petticoat has a wide flounce hem of permanent pleated fabric.
As a nice accent to the flounce, an applique fabric of green with printed flowers is stitched at the lower portion of the flounce. The design of the cut and stitching of this fabric gives a hint of the Art Nouveau style, which was so prevalent to the era. What a pretty hem line it makes.
The waist at the back of the petticoat snaps close. It has elastic in the back and side portion of the waist band to have adjusted the fit. However, the elastic has lost its stretch. So it would need to be replaced if you wanted the waist line smaller than it is. Or take some tucks to make it the right size to fit.
Measurements: The waist band, as it is now is 41" around. Length of petticoat is 33-1/2" long.
Condition: Unused and unworn. Never laundered. Some fading of the blue, at the waistband (see photos), where it has been exposed to light, in the last 100 years. As stated, no stretch to the elastic.
