Vintage 1920's Japanese oriental folding fan of maribou feathers and bone sticks. Still in the original cloth covered fan box.
The Fan: Opened the fan measures 18" across x 10-1/2" wide. (not including the rayon tassels). The feather portion of the fan is 7" wide. The bone stick are cream in color with a cutout design. Condition of the fan is clean with no loss of feathers. I will only note, the bone sticks have a slight bow (see photo) from the fan laying in the box without support under this particular area for many, many years.
The Box: It is cloth covered in a woven damask look. The fabric is printed with an oriental design of dragons etc, in three different colors. Bone fasteners attached to loops secure the dome-shaped lid. Box is covered in cloth, on all sides, except the bottom, which is cardboard. Inside of box is padded and covered in a green silk , also of an oriental design. Extra padded support holds the fan in place inside the box. Box size is 14-1/2" long x 3-1/2" wide x 2" tall. Very clean with no wear to the fabric.
Except where noted, both the fan and box are in good condition
