A pretty 19th century Ayrshire embroidery Christening gown or dress.  Dating about 1840's, the yoke of the bodice is filled with fine drawn and embroidery work of tiny, tiny flowers.  One can only imagine the task of making such incredibly small stitches.  Dress has sweet puff sleeves, with an edging row of Broderie anglaise.  Pull cord at the back of neck line to adjust the fit.  Lower part of the long skirt is inserted with two rows of needlelace lace.  So beautiful and fine.  White cotton fabric is also gorgeous to the touch ~ soft and fine.  Completely hand stitched.

This sweet dress is being offered "as is".   Still fantastic for display, dress a doll or just admire.  Its flaws are holes.  Some near the waist band on the front of the skirt.  A couple small ones on the lower part of the skirt in front.  Also a few small holes in the lace inserts.  Nothing drastic but enough to offer it as it is.   It is very clean.

Measurements:  Very small.  34" long from the neck line to the hem.  14" around the chest, but would adjust some, with the draw cord. 13-1/2" around the waist.

This would be a very suitable small size for a doll.
