A wonderful 19th Century hand made brown calico needle case. Simple made of a strip of calico fabric wrapped around cardboard with a little padding between the layers. It served the purpose very well for storing precious needles.
The case when opened measures 6-3/4" long x 2-3/8" wide.
Front of the case and a close up of the whip stitching to secure the fabric layers.
As the stitches are uneven possibly it was made by young fingers just learning to sew? Perhaps even sewn to be presented as a gift?
If only these things could talk.....the stories they could tell.
