A turkey redwork embroidered quilt from the early 1900's. The graphic quilt features animals, figurals and flora. One of the blocks is signed Hattie E. Smith. Perhaps the embroiderer of the block or the owner of the quilt.
There are 42 embroidered white muslin blocks measuring 8-1/2" square. Each block is sashed with red cotton fabric measuring 2-3/4" wide. The quilting is simple, with hand quilting on a triangle across the corners of each block. The backing of the quilt is white muslin. The quilt is edged in the red fabric. It is handstitched in an overcasted stitch.
The size of the quilt is 67" wide x 76" long. Condition appears to be unused and never laundered. Some oxidation from storage but only a small amount. No other damage that I found. I also want to note the placement of the block with the lion. To me, it adds charm.
