This Christmas piece dates from the early 1900's. Hang Up Baby's Stocking! A Merry Christmas Victorian lithograph printed cotton stocking for hanging on the fireplace. What a delight it would have been for any little child. The graphics are wonderful, featuring Santa with bag of toys, reindeers, and sleigh, mounting the house top, on the one side.
The other side features holly, bells, a fireplace with stockings hung and a baby in a bed. At the toe of the stocking, a short ditty "Hang up the baby's stockings, be sure you don't forget, the little dimple darling, has ne'er seen Xmas yet!
The stocking measures 29-1/2" long from toe to top. It is 5-1/2" wide at the top. Condition: some oxidation from years of storage. A small rip at the top of one side of the stocking and another small hole on the opposite side. Probably wear from hanging over the years, or a tug from a small child.
A nice Christmas treasure not readily found these days.
