Oh my, is this Victorian (1890-1900) black petticoat a beauty. Suitable for Mourning costuming, Gothic or Steampunk. It is made of black sateen cotton fabric. Five panels make up the gored skirt with a drawstring at the waist band.
At the hem line a wide ruffle. The ruffle consist of four widths of fabric, gathered and sewn to the next. At the point where each gathered sections are sewn, a flat self bias is stitched over the seam. This adds a nice decorative touch.
The width of this ruffle is 15" wide. The petticoat also has a under ruffle measuring 9" wide. The two flounces give the petticoat extra body for a gracefully movement. It is in lovely condition.
Length from the waist to hem is 44-1/2" long. Waist measurement is 34" fully extended with the drawstring. Of course, the size could be made smaller with adjustment of the string. Circumference around the bottom of the petticoat is 195".
The petticoat / under garment would not be a disappointment.
