A Victorian hanging brass matchsafe holder for keeping matches. This little gem could be used today, just as much as then, to store matches to light candles. The holder is partially shape like an umbrella, or parasol, fastening to a raise rib brass diamond shape back plate. Round hole at the top for hanging. The edge of the umbrella, itself, has a lovely embossed design at the top. On the back plate, too, there are two tiny slots. I'm not sure what for ???
Size of the holder is 5-1/2" long, point to point, the length of the back plate. Point to point the width is 3-1/4" wide. Length of the umbrella 2-1/2"long.
Condition: Some tweeks to the brass umbrella at the top points. Some surface rust inside and on the back.
A delightful find for reimagining.
