A 19th century coverlet blanket in an overshot weave. This wonderful antique example is so attractive in a block weave with the colors of brick red and dark blue on a ground of natural linen. The thread content is a linen and I believe wool.
It has a 3" fringe around the three sides. Hand hemmed turned under at the top edge. It would be 74" wide x 83" long, not including the fringe. I state would be....this is a center seamed coverlet but for some reason the thread was removed from the center seam.
The two pieces could be seamed to be one piece again or for another project used the two pieces separately. Regardless, it is very striking with the darker colors on one side and lighter tones on the reverse. The size of each block motif is 6"square.
Condition....not center seamed. A tiny bit of wear of thread here and there at the top edge where seamed. (see photos). Only a few area and all minor. Colors are vivid and overall condition, I would consider, very nice.
