The Gatherings is offering a lovely undergarment chemise from the 1880's.  Possibly somewhat earlier.  Made of white cotton with felled side seams on a treadle machine. The yoke features a wide scoop neck line with rows of tucks alternating with rows of puffed gathers.   There are nine rows of tucks across the front plus nine across the back.  Each narrow tuck is sewn on a diagonal. There are eight rows of gathers, each on the front as well as the back. The underwear is sleeveless with the arm holes edged in a lace ruffle.  This same style edges the neck line.  Very nice workmanship makes this garment exceptionally nice.

The chemise is 36" long from neck line to hem.  It is 17-1/2" across the shoulders, from side to side. Although full, the bust would be 40" around.

Condition:  It is good.  A couple tiny pin holes in the fabric and a dot or two yellowing.  No more than would be expected for the age.
