A sentimental souvenir from World War 1 sent home by a GI to someone dear to his heart. This patriotic handkerchief case or letter holder pouch would be a fond remembrance. The fold over padded case is made of a dark blue silk cover, accented with an embroidery of the Stars and Stripes Forever, then adorned on either side with blue silk bows.
Inside case is a cream silk lining with a silk flag forming the pocket for hankies or letters. There also is a small pocket of cream fabric attached to the fold over top. Found inside the pocket a small round photograph of a young man in sailor uniform. It seems this may have been attached at one time on the outside of the cream pocket but had come loose. The photo will remain with the case.
Size of the case is 10-1/4" long x 8" wide.
Condition is good. Some frays to the silk bows. A few tiny soil marks but few and minor.
