From the later Victorian years of the 1870's, a black silk lace shawl or mantilla, perhaps a mourning veil. The center of the piece is of plain tulle net, accented with a deep scallop edging of Chantilly style lace.
The pattern motif is a lovely flora, berry clusters and leaves, shaped to fit each curvature of the scallop edge. Above this motif, meandering leaves and flora form, without true definition, an inner border.
Size of the mantilla is 64" x 72". It is straight on three sides with the (fourth) bottom edge shaped on a curve.
Condition: As to be expected, the usually small holes. No major damage to this lovely piece.
