Here is a lovely handkerchief box from the later Edwardian 1920's era. It is so cottage pretty to decor a vanity or accent a romantic bedroom decor. Not only a nice decorator piece, but this box is quite useful for storing a collection of vintage handkerchiefs. The pink cardboard box base is slightly padded, then covered in pink gathered silk. The thin celluloid lid is fastened to the base with pink ribbon. A delicate spray of dogwood? branches are hand painted at the center of the lid. To further define the lid, gold paint is painted along the fluted edge.
This box is in nice condition. Very clean on the inside and out. Some foxing to the underside of the box and the celluloid lid turns up slightly at the corners. This would not be uncommon for this type of lid.
Box could also be used for a trinket box as well as for hankies.
