The proficiency of needlework is displayed in this outstanding homespun linen layover pillow sham from the 1880's, Victorian era. Finely accomplished, with several borders of hand draw / pulled thread and a center embellished with a large monogram.
The artistry of the monogram is incorporated with a floral design, as is one of the border. Truly beautiful and truly unique. The more it is studied, the more apparent the talent and the time involved. Corners of the sham have been expertly mitered, all hand stitched. The lovely point crochet lace trim is also hand made and hand applied to the edge of the sham.
Monogram letters are B L (or possibly a C). This is a lay over the pillow sham, with no backing. Color is an off white.
Size is 25-1/2" wide x 38-1/2" long, including the 1-1/2" wide crochet trim.
Condition is very good. A tiny dot of oxidation here and there, but, oh so minor. It would not need to be laundered to use, it is that clean.
A beautiful antique bed linen of the past.
The last photo shows the color blacked out to give you a better view of the monogram initials.
