Dating from Civil War era....1860's or about. A country primitive offering to dress your early doll or just to display from a peg rack. What could be better than the earthy tone of this small scale fabric combined with an equally scaled trim.
Incised white china buttons, fastening the front of the dress, provides added detail. Dress is longer at the back for bustle. Dropped shoulders with piping between the shoulder seam and armhole. Some hand finishing. Mostly treadle machine stitched.
Measurements: 15" long from the shoulder seam to hem at the front of dress. 15-1/2" long at the center back. 12" around the chest. 6" across from shoulder to shoulder. Sleeve length is 5-3/8" long.
Condition: Although a lovely early dress it does have some problems as you will note from the last photographs. A straight tear from the shoulder seam to the arm hole seam. About 1" in length. Another straight tear at the fold of the sleeve. This tear is 2" in length.
Another on the other underarm seam about 3/4" long. All tears follow the darker brown stripe of the fabric. Also some tiny pin dot holes in the fabric, mostly in the back. Some soiling, oxidation.
