Here's a tastefully executed tambour embroidery fichu, scarf or shawl from the middle Victorian to 1880's era. The 40" x 42" scarf is made of a finer gauze fabric with delicate tambour embroidery work, outlining the border and two opposite corners.
The design is rather an abstract flower with a soft feathery scroll. Drawn or pulled thread forms the center of each of the larger flowers. Each drawnwork center is worked slightly in a different thread pattern.
A lovely piece to admire or for reenactment costuming.
Condition: Although a few flaws, for the age the piece is remarkably good. You will find a few tiny holes and a small amount of oxidation from storage.
