A charming pair of vintage 1920's, or possibly as late as the early 1930's, decorated bone crochet hooks or rug hooking. The pair appear to be hand carved with the surface and edges smoothed.
Although not a matching pair, the two have a similar incised design of fruit branches on the flat surface of the one side. Each, too, are slightly different in size, thickness and carving Only one is marked with a paper label ""Made In Japan".
The measurement of the one is 4-7/8" long x 1/2" wide at the widest point. Thickness is 1/16" thick. The other measures, 4-3/4" long x 1/2" at the widest point. Thickness is scant 1/24" thick, with the hook area, itself, about the thickness of a heavy paper.
On the rounded head of the hook, on this particular one, I can feel a slight nick in the surface of the bone. Possibly a flaw in the making.
A interesting pair to add to a needle work tool collection or even fun to use.
