An adorable hand made little girl's white cotton dimity sunbonnet. Bonnet dates about 1850's (perhaps 1840's) to 1860's. A child's size about 2-3 years of age.
The bonnet features a deep brim with rows of exquisite cording. It also is made with a long apron to protect the neck and shoulders from the rays of the sun. A narrow gathered ruffle separates the brim from the rest of the bonnet. Another narrow ruffle embellishes the brim at the face line. Chin ties, although one is partially missing.
Measurement: 9" at the neck line, from side to side. 14" along the face line, from one side to the other. Length of the apron is 4-1/2" long.
Condition: For the age, nice. A couple scattered holes on the back. See photo.
Reminds me much of a Tasha Tudor style. Something she would have worn, only in a larger size.
