Plain, sturdy and ease of movement describes this woman's full length old bib apron. Dating from the early 1900's to 1920's, of which I lean more after 1910 to 1920.
The fabric is a medium weight woven maybe dimity or double weave with a dense look to it. In fact, it wasn't until I examined in the light I could see it was maybe a dimity or something such. The apron is made of one width of fabric, selvage to selvage.
A neat feature of the apron is the oblong pocket sewn on one side of the chest area. A row of stitches are sewn down the center making two narrow openings on the pocket. Just the right size to hold, maybe a pencil? It would be that size.
It is definitely a work apron, perhaps a shop keeper. Maybe a general store, rooming or boarding house of sorts? Or perhaps none and just for home use.
Measurements: Length from the middle of the neck strap to the hem is 51". From the top of the bib area to the hem it is 42" long. It has no waist, but the size at the waist area would be 34". This measurement does not include the twill tape ties. Each of the ties are 23" long so generous enough to wrap the waist and tie in front
Clean and in good condition. In fact, it appears the apron has had little usage.
