The story of the tortoise and the hare is colorfully illustrated on this child spinning toy top from the 1940's. A race to the finish.... a surprise by the rabbit to awaken from a nap to find the tortoise has won. A cute vintage childhood plaything.
Although I found no markings on the top, I believe it was made by the Ohio Art Company. It is signed, though, by the famous Fern Bisel Peat, the illustrator of this delightful graphic.
It is a working spinning top with certainly some love from use but oh so cute. Wooden knob in red. The rest of the top is metal.
No dents but some surface rust or perhaps some soiling. It possibly could be cleaned some but will let that to someone else.
Size is about 8" in diameter.
