A wonderful group of late antique Victorian quilt blocks. There are 56 blocks, in the lot, pieced and hand stitched. Fabrics of calico materials, stripes and checks are used, mainly, in warm brown tones, although a few in other assorted colors, such as double pinks, blue and red.
All the blocks have the same check fabric at the center. This piece is set on a diamond. The other pieced fabrics, in the block, are set in a triangle, around the diamond shape. Except for four matching blocks, each are different. Some of the fabrics used, may be repeats, but there are only four which match exactly.
Size is 8" but vary slightly. The measurement of the check fabric at the center of the block is 5-1/2" square, but it, too, varies slightly. All fabrics have never been used, as near as I can tell. You will find one edge fabric with fading (see photo) and several with frays at the edge (see photo).
Enough here to make a quilt and if you divide the price down, it is only $3.75 a block. A nice find for 19th century quilt blocks.
