An extra fancy cream silk late Victorian or Edwardian children baby bonnet. This is a beautiful bonnet, comprised of six rows of cording and ruching, framing the face. A number of horizontal rows are featured at the back of bonnet.
Around the face area, a 1-3/4" wide ruffle would help shade the child's eyes from the sun. Under this ruffle, another double ruffle trimmed in lace, certainly provides extra detail. A narrow ruffle also finishes the neck line. The inside of bonnet is lined in cotton muslin.
For portrait perfect, the silk ties are long and wide enough to form a beautiful bow tucked under the chin. The edge of the ties are finished in hem stitching. The size of the bonnet would fit a child about 2 years of age.
Measurements: 18" along the face from one side to the other. 10" along the back of the neck line. Ties measure 26" long x 5-1/2" wide.
Condition: except for oxidation from years of storage, no other flaws.
Costume a child or dress a doll.
