Dating from the later Edwardian, World War 1 era, this wide brim textured plaited straw hat is delightful. I love the way it is decorated with the fine lavender purple veiling laid softy on the brim, then dotted with two fabric bouquet of violets.
A silk velvet ribbon accents the crown area. The fabric of the violets and ribbon have taken on a brownish tone over the years, but were actually the pretty shade of the lavender veiling.
Inside crown is fitted with a piece of cardboard hand stitched into place. String tie would have secured the hat in place on the head.
Measurement: Hat is 15" in diameter. Width of the brim is 4" wide. Height of crown is 2" tall. It is 18" circumference around the inside of crown.
Lovely condition and wearable.
