A nice early topsy turvy cloth doll from the late Victorian or early 1900's. Black doll is wearing a red dot calico fabric dress while the white doll is wearing blue calico. Both dolls appear to have hand drawn or painted facial features.
Body of dolls are very tightly and solidly stuffed with cotton batting. Length of the doll is 17" (this includes the doll and length of dress).
Condition: Some minor spotting and soiling to the clothes. Blue calico has all over fading, which gives it a wonderful country-worn patina. Soiling to the cloth hands and face of the white doll. Hands of black doll does have some damage. A small hole on the end of the one hand and part of the stuffing is missing on the other. Notice, also, one hand is made of black and brown cloth. The other is solid black.
Really a cute doll with a great Americana look.
