A charming hand embroidered white linen purse handbag from the Victorian / Edwardian / early 1900's era.
This purse with its padded and cutwork stitches of flowers and leaves seem to dance across the fabric. Not only is the fanciwork pretty, so is the shape of the bag.
Both front and back are of the same embroidered design and both sides have a fold over flap at the top opening.
A scallop edging, in a pointed design, finishes this lovely handbag. Embroidered eyelet holes for lacing ribbon holds the back and front together. At the top of the bag, on both sides, a row of eyelet for securing the bag or possibly just for a decorative look.
As with many projects, completion never was finished and remained so all these years. With a little bit of ribbon, I have completed the task. Although you may want to change to your own ribbon and color, it can be easily done.
Condition of the embroidery and fabric is very nice.
Measurements: 8-1/2" wide. At the side edges it is 8" in length. 9-3/4" long from top to the point at the bottom.
