The Gatherings is offering a pair of pre Civil War 1850 muslin fabric detached dress sleeves with very fine whitework embroidery border. A delightful study of flowers in a tiny scale, some with open work, some raised padded.
All the work is executed with precision making you wonder how such small stitches could be made? The flared bell style of the undersleeves suggest about 1850's fashion. Pointed scallop at the bottom edge.
Unfortunately, the sleeves have not been stored very well, so I am offering them as they are, for research, study or just to admire the beautiful work.
Condition: The muslin fabric is quite yellowed from age. Also, the fabric does have shreds etc. Still they are noteworthy and with reasonable care and love, they will survive to be admired and studied.
Measurement: 9" wide across the bottom edge (18" completely around). One sleeve is 10" long. The other is 12" long. The whitework tapers from 2" wide to 4" wide because of the flare of the sleeve.
Because of the age, it is getting harder to find textiles from so long ago.
