An amazing sweet child's Victorian 1880's dress in a wonderful Chintz fabric. A cocoa brown background with a floral print of rose and cream flowers. The dress buttons down the front, from neck line to hem, with 10 multi-colored abalone pearl buttons. Peter Pan collar with a nice accent of narrow braid. The same braid defines the edge of sleeves, hem line and the two pockets on either side of the skirt. Also embellishes the "bustle"back look flounce. A ruffle hem line finishes the bottom of dress. Inside bodice and sleeves are lined in a brown lining material. Also a reinforcement of a calico fabric gives a bit more stiffness where the ruffle attaches to the hem.(see photo). Sewing includes both hand and machine stitch.
Dress would fit about a 1 to 2 year old. Length from the neck line to hem is 20-1/2"long. 9" across from shoulder to shoulder. 24" around the chest. 9" sleeve length.
Condition: With many garments from this age, there are some small holes. Most are on the front skirt area. A couple on sleeve and a couple on collar. All are minor. The dress is very sturdy.
The dress has been in my own personal collection for many years. Now it is time for someone else to be appreciate it as much as I have.
