Our ancestors loved sewing and making crafts as much as many of us love to do today. Of course, I am always pleasantly surprised of the beautiful crafts someone long ago created.
This hand made pillow top cover is no exception. Dates from the later Victorian era into the early 1900's. Made on a loom, this bright sunshine yellow woven cover will make you smile.
It is made of skeins of embroidery floss thread woven and tied in an intricate manner. Matching yellow silk satin ribbon is laced at the edge of each side and twice each direction through the body of cover. The floss is then tied at the edge to form a fringe. Beautiful and clever.
The size of just the top is 15" side to side. The length of the fringe is 4" long on all four sides. Overall size is 23" x23" , which includes the fringe. Very nice clean condition.
The top would be pretty on a pillow or perhaps you have another creative way of using this treasure from the past.
