This later Victorian piece in almost pristine condition, has been stowed away for years. It is a fabulous pillow top of gorgeous silk satin fabric. Encrusted with cream silk embroidered flora, the outline of the flowers and leaves are embellished with gold metallic thread. Two strands of heavier metallic thread are laid side by side with couching embroidery to secure. Truly, a stunning piece.
The embroidery work of the pillow top has been finished but never assembled into a pillow. To finish into a pillow, a backing fabric would need to be added. A thread basting still secures paper to the edges and back of the top
Size is 26" square.
Condition is very nice, especially considering the age and the nature of the fabric. Still, a minor imperfection of a smudge and a tiny amount of oxidation.
It would be a magnificient piece to finish into a pillow ....or even to frame.
Directly below the center motif is a lighter smudge of, mainly, two lines
