The Gatherings is offering a 12" tall molded composition boy doll made about 1917 by Ideal Doll Company, at the time of World War I. This doughboy soldier doll is dressed in a painted on "khaki uniform" and was called Liberty Boy.
It was my understanding, this doll was made in the effort to sell war bonds. Diamond shape Ideal marking on the back of body. The doll has jointed arms and legs. The head is a socket style. One of the legs seem to be frozen as I couldn't move it and did not want to force it. Arms and head move very freely.
Condition of the painted surface is good but not without some flaws. Nose, tips of fingers and ears show some roughness from play. An interesting doll with historical significance.
