Dating from the later Victorian or early 1900's era, a splendid full length dressing gown night dress. Made of fine white cotton fabric, the robe is lavished with stitched rows of tucks and hand crochet trim.
This same treatment of tucks and crochet trim is used at the wrist area of the long sleeves and to accent the front opening. Closing the front opening are 17 pearl buttons from the neck to the hem. More inspiration of crochet and tucks embellish the collar and the ruffled hem.
On the back of the gown at the shoulders, an inside placket has been added on either side, I assume this may be for reinforcement of stress points.
Measurements: 52-1/2" long center back neck line to hem. 13-1/2" across shoulder to shoulder. Lots of fullness at the bust area as it measures 46" around. Sleeve length is 19" long. 7" around the wrist area which seems a bit tight. There are a couple of soft pleats at the back of neck to ease in fullness, too.
Condition: Has been recently laundered, pressed and clean. There is a vertical repair at the center back at the collar in between the soft pleats. Probably about 2" in length. As with a majority of old garments you will find a pin dot hole here or there. There are a few but no harm.
A beautiful gown for display, research or historical purposes.
