From an Italian trousseau, a pair of layover pillow shams from the early 1900's. Found in Buffalo, New York area, the pair features a church with steeple and an angel on either side of the church. The inspiration setting is accented with meandering embroidery of flowers and drawnwork.
The oblong shams are a layover style with the design in the lower portion of the sham. The size of the motif, itself, is 24-1/2" long x 11" tall. Overall size of sham is 40" long x 28-1/2" wide. The border area of the shams are embellished with drawnwork in two different styles. The fabric of the shams is either a linen or metis (combination of linen and fine cotton).
Condition: good. No damage that I found. If used at all, very slightly. More than likely never been laundered so are off white in color.
