Here is an intriguing little Victorian, early 1900's gadget, an early wire and wood handle parcel carrier. Have you seen one of these? All stores were eager to advertise any way they could so why not with a parcel handle to attach to the purchase just made.
This handle was advertising for the Jones & Marks, The Big Clothing House, Canton Missouri. It was founded in 1879 in Kansas City. This handle probably dates late Victorian c 1900's. Perhaps a hat or garment, tied in its own box, with one of these attached handles, would have been carried home.
Really nifty!
The handle is finished wood with a paper label. Wire is attached through the handle with bends at the end to fasten the string ties of a box.
For the age remarkably preserved.
Size: 6-1/4" long from the wire tip to the end of other wire tip.
