Here's a lovely estate find, a pair of Victorian silk satin Wedding garters found with a hand embroidered & ribbon work corset bag.  A handwritten note is attached to the corset bag, stating it was made by Aunt Alice Foster for my trousseau.  From another note attached to a trousseau nightgown, the name of the recipient was Clara Foster Bacon.  From other family notes, Clara was married in 1896.

THE GARTERS:

The garters are made with a waist belt of cream silk ribbon.  Folded in half, the ribbon is hand embroidered with feather stitch finishing the seam.  Stitched to the belt is purchased wide elastic.  This elastic is then attached to the fancy part of the garters, which I believe are hand made.  Metal rings form the base, which have been covered in crochet stitch.  Additional use of ribbon has been laced between these rings.  At either end ribbon bows add further embellishment  At the lower end a metal garter fastener is attached to the ribbon.  Pat'd dates on the metal fastener is 12-13-92 and 12-31-95.  Velvet Grip is stamped on other end.

Measurements:  The waist belt is 31-1/2" long from one end to the other.  Length of the garter is 17-1/2" long from the top of the waist band to the bottom of fastener.

Condition:  Except for the elastic being brittle, the garters are very
nice.

THE CORSET BAG:

This delightful corset bag, made by Aunt Alice, of cream silk ribbon is hand embellished with flowers made of blue ribbon.  The center of the flowers are embroidered in french knots.  Leaves are in green thread.  The case or bag is lined in pale blue silk.  The two long sides of the case are of embroidery stitch.  Narrow ribbon is laced through hand crochet loops near the top to tie the bag closed.  With the bag is a large padded bow of the same ribbon and same pretty motif.  At one corner is a lonely hook...no eye nor any other hooks.  Somehow the bow would have attached to the bag but I found no evidence of how or where.

Measurement:  17-1/2" long x 6-1/4" wide. The large padded bow is 9-3/4" long x 3-3/4" wide.

Condition of the bag and bow:  Bag does have some small soiling spots and a couple of the embroidery stitches is broken at one side.  Otherwise good.  The padded bow does have some shredding to the silk ribbon but very presentable.
