A beautiful Italian needlework sheet return or bolster sham for a standard double bed. This beauty dates from the late Victorian or early 1900's. The decorative sides and bottom edge are embellished with drawnwork and stylized flowers set in ovals.

A larger figure oval at the center. To add an extra romantic charm to the cover, two border rows of hem stitching are added.  The first row displays just hemstitching.  The second row of hemstitching is worked with trails of embroidered stems and small cutwork flowers.

The length of the cover is 63-1/2" long x 32" wide.  It is only the side edges and the lower part of the cover that is embellished with the needlework.  The width of this decorative edge is 6-1/4" wide.  The remainder of the linen fabric is plain.

In case you want to know, the size of the ovals at the corners are 3-1/2" x 4",  The center figural oval is 6" x 4-1/2".  The smaller ovals are 3" x 2-1/2".

Condition is very nice.  Possibly never used.  Even though it has not been laundered it is clean.

Also for your information, it was photographed on a king size bed to give you a perspective of the size.
